Read Everything in ChatGPT

Set up a read-only Everything MCP connection in ChatGPT, where custom MCP server connections are available.

ChatGPT can read Everything through a custom MCP connection. Once enabled, you can ask it to explore the wiki, open articles, compare arguments and answer questions grounded in the pages.

First check whether your account supports it

OpenAI currently documents custom MCP creation on ChatGPT web, subject to plan and workspace permissions. Pro supports custom read/fetch connections; Business and Enterprise/Edu have workspace-admin controls, and not every account or member can create a server. If the relevant option is missing, it may simply be unavailable to you. You can still browse Everything normally.

Add the connection

  1. Open ChatGPT on the web, and go to Plugins.

  2. Select + and Add custom MCP server (if available).

  3. Name it Everything and enter this URL:

    https://everything.emlynoregan.com/mcp/

  4. Choose no authentication for public reading, if offered. No Everything account or API key is needed.

  5. Review the connection-risk notice, create the plugin, and inspect its discovered tools. Install or enable it for your chats.

  6. Start a new chat, type @ and select Everything (or use the client’s plugin selector).

Workspace-managed accounts may need an administrator to create or approve the connection. You do not need to publish a new plugin publicly.

First prompt

Using the Everything plugin, call get_page for /beyond-the-application. Give me a short introduction to the collection and list its four main essays. Link to the page.

If ChatGPT answers without calling Everything, select the connection again and ask specifically for its get_page tool. A correct-looking answer without a tool call is not a connection test.

What to expect

You can read publicly published articles and search the wiki. This connection does not give you editing access. Tool lists may show additional operations, but those are not usable by public visitors.

If you don't see Add custom MCP server, consult your ChatGPT plan/workspace permissions rather than trying to sign up for Everything.
