Once enabled, you can ask it to explore the wiki, open articles, compare arguments and answer questions grounded in the pages.\n\n## First check whether your account supports it\n\nOpenAI currently documents custom MCP creation on **ChatGPT web**, subject to plan and workspace permissions. Pro supports custom read/fetch connections; Business and Enterprise/Edu have workspace-admin controls, and not every account or member can create a server. If the relevant option is missing, it may simply be unavailable to you. You can still [browse Everything normally](/guide).\n\n## Add the connection\n\n1. Open ChatGPT **on the web**, and go to **Plugins**.\n2. Select **+** and **Add custom MCP server** (if available).\n3. Name it **Everything** and enter this URL:\n\n   `https://everything.emlynoregan.com/mcp/`\n\n4. Choose **no authentication** for public reading, if offered. No Everything account or API key is needed.\n5. Review the connection-risk notice, create the plugin, and inspect its discovered tools. Install or enable it for your chats.\n6. Start a **new chat**, type `@` and select **Everything** (or use the client’s plugin selector).\n\nWorkspace-managed accounts may need an administrator to create or approve the connection. You do not need to publish a new plugin publicly.\n\n## First prompt\n\n> Using the Everything plugin, call `get_page` for `/beyond-the-application`. Give me a short introduction to the collection and list its four main essays. Link to the page.\n\nIf ChatGPT answers without calling Everything, select the connection again and ask specifically for its `get_page` tool. A correct-looking answer without a tool call is not a connection test.\n\n## What to expect\n\nYou can read publicly published articles and search the wiki. This connection does not give you editing access. Tool lists may show additional operations, but those are not usable by public visitors.\n\nIf you don't see **Add custom MCP server**, consult your ChatGPT plan/workspace permissions rather than trying to sign up for Everything.\n\nFor up-to-date screenshots and availability, consult [OpenAI's official custom MCP setup guide](https://help.openai.com/en/articles/12584461-connecting-custom-mcp-servers-in-chatgpt).\n\nFor help, see [Check your connection](/guide/getting-started/connect-agent/first-steps), [Access and privacy](/guide/getting-started/connect-agent/access-and-privacy), or [Troubleshooting](/guide/getting-started/connect-agent/troubleshooting).\n\n[All client guides](/guide/getting-started/connect-agent)","navigation":"[Connection guides](/guide/getting-started/connect-agent) · [Try Everything](/guide/getting-started/connect-agent/first-steps)","related":[{"title":"Choose a client","url":"/guide/getting-started/connect-agent"},{"title":"First steps","url":"/guide/getting-started/connect-agent/first-steps"},{"title":"Help with connection","url":"/guide/getting-started/connect-agent/troubleshooting"}]}}
