Read Everything in Codex
Configure Codex CLI or its IDE integration to consult public Everything articles.
Use Everything as an external reference when working in Codex.
Add the MCP server
Run this command in a terminal with Codex installed:
codex mcp add everything --url https://everything.emlynoregan.com/mcp/
Check that Codex recognises it:
codex mcp list
Alternatively, put the following in ~/.codex/config.toml, adding it to any existing configuration rather than replacing other servers:
[mcp_servers.everything]
url = "https://everything.emlynoregan.com/mcp/"
The Codex CLI and IDE integration use the shared configuration. Reload your client if necessary.
Try it
Use the Everything MCP
get_pagetool to read/topics/software-and-agents. What is the title, and which collection does it introduce?
A successful read identifies Software & Agents and Beyond the Application. Check the real tool result rather than trusting a plausible answer.
Now try asking Codex to compare two articles, trace a concept through related pages, or discuss an Everything essay in relation to your own code.
Visitors have read-only access. No Everything login, API key or local server is needed. Your Codex account may have its own access requirements.
See OpenAI's Codex MCP example for current commands.
