Read Everything in Claude Code

Add the public Everything MCP server to Claude Code from a terminal and verify its tools.

Claude Code can read Everything while helping you with software or research projects.

Add the remote server

Open a terminal with Claude Code installed. For the current project:

claude mcp add --transport http everything https://everything.emlynoregan.com/mcp/

For access across your own projects, use the user scope instead:

claude mcp add --scope user --transport http everything https://everything.emlynoregan.com/mcp/

Choose one. These commands register the remote service. They do not download or run an Everything server locally.

Confirm the entry:

claude mcp list

Start Claude Code with claude, then use /mcp to inspect the server and its tools. Approve reading from the connection when prompted.

Verify

Call Everything's get_page for /beyond-the-application. Describe the collection and its four major essays. Use the actual tool result, not prior knowledge.

Once it works, ask Claude Code to find related articles as context for your coding work, explain an architectural idea or compare a piece of design with an argument in Everything.

If it doesn't work

Check that claude mcp list includes the entry, inspect /mcp status, and ensure you're in a scope where the server was configured. If the agent fails to use a tool despite being connected, name get_page directly.

No Everything login is needed for published content. The server is read-only for visitors. You do not need to configure OAuth for this use.

For current CLI options, consult Claude Code MCP documentation.
